STEM Course

Course length: 2 – 4 weeks
Course Theme: Engineering


To Provide a hands-on experience of the exciting world of the professional engineer. Students will have the opportunity to undertake real engineering type projects and gain a valuable insight into how technology can improve our lives.



Participants will have an action packed experience of the main engineering disciplines including Nuclear power, Electrical, Mechanical Chemical and Petroleum engineering. The programme will include:

Sample course

  • Participants working in teams to design and build a working hovercraft
  • Design and build a large 2.8 metre model of the London Eye
  • Learn how to create bio plastic  via transesterification and produce bio diesel in the laboratory
  • Learn how to design and build  an environmentally friendly building utilizing solar panels
  • Introduction to the latest CAD 3D solid modelling technology
  • Learn about cutting edge injection moulding technology
  • English and study skills for university life
  • Extensive social activities and excursions
  • Demonstrations of state of the art technologies such as CNC and PV cells
  • Guest lecturers from internationally acclaimed research engineers
  • Industrial visits to leading UK companies
  • Engineering English tuition
  • Visit to the Selafield Nuclear power station
  • Hands on experience of solving engineering problems
  • Separate itinerary for parents and friends

The course will be led by a team of Engineers and university staff who have received national and international recognition for their interactive workshops


What is included:

  • Full board accommodation including  at University approved site near the campus / or with the option of staying at a local hotel (Jury’s Inn  hotel Bradford)  Please note that participants staying at the Hotel breakfast will be at the Jury Inn and not at the University
  • Pick up from Airport
  • Excursion to York,
  • Books ,materials for design and build activities
  • Course dinner with guest speaker
  • Certificate at the end of the course
  • Free use of sports facilities
  • *All meals i.e.  three full meal provided per day (meals provided by the University including course dinner are halal) all meals will be halal and be of good quality
  • Internet access ( for both parents and students )
  • English Tuition (for both parents and students 20 hours over 2 weeks )
  • Introductory tuition in the Engineering disciplines


What can be added:

  • English language Up to 10 hours per week
  • Training on choosing University and degree specialisation
